Avatars Replacing Forum Icons



We have replaced regular forum icons (in the forum view) with the topic starters avatars. The topic starter's avatar can also be found on the board index "recent topics" list.

Oh and don't worry, it won't affect your site's performance: it's only one more query per page-load. That's up to 30 times faster than our competitors.


Tooltips



We have also added very nice looking tooltips all over the forums for various descriptions. You can see them in the sidebar, in the subforums and in the forum view when a topic has a description.


Bugs Fixed

Here's a list of bugs that have been fixed in this update:

• Long names exceed author info box
  
• Search button image not changing smoothly

IP.Board 3.1.3 Compatible

Joie is now fully compatible with the latest version of Invision Board Board which is 3.1.3. Please report any bugs you may find in our bug tracker.

Please note that all our IP.Board skins will be updated so they are fully compatible with 3.1.3 very soon (give us a day).

Who if I may ask? So, I don't buy from there, if I like something? Or you mean to say Xenforo?

Anyone using the hack available at IPS community forums. We can't compare to XenForo.

My suggestions and concerns:

1. A function that automatically adjust the description box after the actual text in the box is needed. I will tell and show you why:



Here you got another example for forums:



When description is placed above the actual forum link, this looks really bad, also this will collide with the "on topic preview" that Matt is going to add as default in 3.2. There is no need to display "topics & post" when you hover the text, having description and topic/post count display and in future also topic preview on text, will look messy.

Solution:
"topics & posts" when hover row. (same goes with page numbers for topics)
"description" when hover title/text.

Also: Please force the description box to stay to the right at whatever cost, it just looks silly when the box pops up above the forum/topic title.

2. I dislike limitations, so I would really like to have avatar AND forum icons, is this possible?

I hope I didn't crash the party. I hope someone will answer my questions. Thanks in advance!

I don't see the tooltips above the titles. What browser and what version of that browser are you using please?

Mozilla/Firefox 3.6.12 / 1280x1024 screen resolution (which is the common / most used resolution as far as I know, unless you're on a ridiculous large screen xD)

Did you open bug reports? By the way, if you want to deactivate the tooltips, I can tell you how. (And 3.2 is not out at the moment, so we will be able to adapt once needed).

OK. Thanks. I'll wait and see what you guys might come up with. And correct, I haven't bought it yet. I just looked at the demo. I really love Joie, but I don't want to buy Joie and then ask questions after. I need to know what product I am buying and if the issues (I personally got, and maybe others also got) will be sorted out. When it comes to my 2nd question, this is not vital at all in regards to whether I buy it or not, I just see that as a bonus if so. Thanks.

Update: You mentioned deactivating, so, this will bring back the default/old description system? I don't want to deactivate it, I love the concept you guys have, but if I am forced to deactivate it, so be ^^.

I told you it was possible because I thought you had the skin. So you could have deactivated them while I was fixing the issues

OK. Cool. Does it support IE8? Looks weird in IE8 to me, + some stuff not showing at all in IE, like the forum links on the menu to the left. I never use IE and I am totally against it, but many users still use IE, unfortunately.

We've been working on the tooltips today. I am sure you will love what we did: it fixes all of the issues you reported. They work well in all browsers, and are deactivated in IE.

As for IE, this skin is clearly designed for modern browsers. So IE 8 won't do well with it, and even if we try to avoid to making it unusable, it is full of issues at the moment, which are not likely to be fixed. I don't think this is a problem as the particular interface of Joie is clearly not meant for beginners, who are the only who use IE now (either beginners or people who won't accept change and progress, again they won't like Joie). Please also note we deactivated some javascript features for IE, to prevent it from going crazy.

That's just my opinion, but well.

One more thing, you can re-add the old post icons quite easily. We can assist you to do this.

You customized the skin. What if you install a fresh one? It works, doesn't it?

I think the issue is related with your stuff. Oddly, some font tags are added while rendering.

I meant the menu you've got with Guide, etc. It is causing the issues. Try another page, you'll see it works.

What I can advise you is try to edit this menu to use more modern code (no font, no center tag). I'm pretty sure it will fix your issues.
